News from Montgomery [4.17.16]

Sorry folks about not having news last week, but I’m back!!!  Its nice to hear from my readers that they miss this column.   I actually miss doing it also.  This has been a gorgeous sunny week just can’t seem to get rid of that cold wind.  But many of us have been out raking and cleaning up our yards and sidewalks.

4/10, THANKS, to the donors that contributed to the success of Sunday’s Community Blood Drive, where 22 units were collected.   Please note the next blood drive will be June 5, from 10-2 at St. Isidore’s Parish Hall , on Route 242 in Montgomery Center.   If you want to make an appointment email  redcrossblood.org  or get help from your local volunteers.  Thanks to all the donors, local businesses and Community members and volunteers who make this drive so successful.  (Thanks Joan Grossman)

4/12, The 500 Card Club met at the lovely home of Carmen and Dean Scott on Route 242.  Carmen had everyone come for noontime.  She had prepared lunch for all of us ladies, 4 kinds of pizza, chips, an assortment of beverages, fresh veggies and fruits, a variety of cookies, candy, nuts and enough to snack on during the afternoon.   It was a cold afternoon and flurries were floating around most the afternoon, but nothing that bothered the birds at the back-yard feeders.  Sue Cherrier added her special touch by making everyone a beautiful score card.  Thanks Sue!!  We got started playing cards around 1:15 and those cards seemed to have lost the high cards for most of us, kept hearing “I can’t vote with this hand”, or the kitty’s were terrible also.  But we got through it finally and the high score for the afternoon went to Denise Baker and second high was our hostess Carmen Scott and Connie McFarland had most horses.   In the absence of Jo Cota, Helen Parent played for her.   (You were missed Jo and we all hope you are feeling better)  Lorraine Gillis will host the next meeting at her home on the 17th of May.

4/13, It’s that time of year when the snowbirds head North.  We welcome Lorraine St.Onge back to her home here in the Village.   She said it was getting to hot down there in Florida.  Can you imagine…TO HOT.  Some of that would feel good up this way.  But that would put the sugar makers out of work,  as the trees would start budding.  I noticed the soft maples are budding here in the village, they are not going to wait any longer.  I really can’t complain about our weather, it has been very unusual but not unbearable.  As I start this column the weekend is suppose to be a  wonderful weekend.   And it sure is..even the wind is milder today.   We have the doors and windows all opened this afternoon and country music on.

4/15, Mark and Sue Baddorf have returned home after being away for three weeks, vacationing in Italy.  They spend time on airplanes, trains and vehicles and spent six days in each, Rome met up with friends and went out to dinner with them. Then went to Mamalfi Coast and from there to Toscany.  We had a splendid trip and enjoyed the many tourist attractions.

HAPPY BITHDAY TO:  Michael Sheltra 4/24, Susan Auclair 4/25, Brent Godin, Howard King 4/26,  Delaney Smith4/27, Barry Domina 4/30.

Happy Anniversary to Romeo and Theresa Lamore 4/24.
