News from Montgomery [8.6.17]

How has your week been? It has had it’s ups and downs. The worse day was Thursday when I started hearing sirens COMING into Town. I called a friend to ask if she had any idea of what was going on and she had heard there was a fire at Alpine Haven. Then it wasn’t long after that we heard more sirens, knew it had to be bad, and knowing the area, there wasn’t much water up that way, for several hours fire departments kept coming to help out. The departments from Richford, Berkshire, Enosburg, Franklin and Bakersfield came to assist, and someone told me that departments from over in Jay area came also. There were several condo’s that burned, I was told the Waldorf Inn where I worked 50 years ago was purchased and someone had built condo’s on the property. Many changes in those 50 years have taken place. I want all the Firemen to know how very much I appreciate all their efforts in coming to help out. Sue Wilson and Brent Godin delivered 3 cases of bottled water to the Firemen donated by Sylvesters Store. All acts of kindness were well received, God Bless each and everyone of you!!!

8/4, There was a good attendance that came and enjoyed the “Elisabeth Von Trapp Concert” that was held at the United Methodist Church. She is extremely talented and such a warm welcoming personality. It was an extremely humid evening and even though we had several fans trying to keep everyone cool, they were having a tough job. Elisabeth had several CD’s that many people stayed after to make purchases. Linda Van Gieson and Lucille Hulbert served cold drinks, crackers and cheese.

There were 9 vendors today (8/5) that came to brave the weather which was cloudy most the morning with a few drops of rain now and then, but in the last hour the rain started to pour down and the grounds soon became like a sponge filled with water and streaming down the roads. Some picked up early and left, some had sold out and were going to leave anyways. It’s been nice for me to go and help out our daughter Veronica and spend some quality time with her and she has appreciated my help and made me one of her beautiful tatted choker jewelry pieces, which I will wear with pride. It also keeps me in the loop with our Community and to visit with new people that come to our table. One fellow Phil came by to talk and we both enjoyed his visit with us and he was waiting for his wife Karen to look around. I hope he will pickup the County Courier this week and enjoy this column. (Today we both got soaked and once we had her car packed up she came up and had me dry her clothes, before heading home.)

8/1-4, Lorraine St.Onge has enjoyed the many visits from her family this week, coming from a far was son Steve. Her grandchildren Jared, Brooke, Madison, Thomas and Alex are wonderful in offering their help, also the youngest visitor was Great granddaughter Natalie McGinley and her mom Leanne. Then on Saturday the Families and Friends of Scott and Kristen St.Onge were all invited to their home in Georgia, Vt. for a celebration party of their Wedding which was held in Jamaica back in February, when only the immediate family attended. It was a wonderful celebration of their Love and joy. Best wishes always to this young couple!!

8/5, I attended the Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley Concert at the Opera House in Enosburg with my friends Dick and Diane Bocian. What a wonderful evening of fun and laughter, there is just one word that tells it all and that is FABULOUS!!! There was almost a full hall in attendance and lots of cheers as the Elvis impersonator cheered the crowd, he did a duet with Impersonator Johnny Cash and then Johnny Cash and his boys played many of Johnny’s famous songs and duets with Impersonator June Carter Cash. It was hard to come home and lay down to go to sleep as there was so much excitement left in my body. Elvis and Johnny once completing their acts were given a standing ovation from the crowd.
