News from Montgomery [10.29.17]

Here I am saying this is the last column for this month..it has flew by. As I come to finish this column the wind is picking up speed. The weatherman said we were in for wind and rain. It sure is bring the leaves down and will have another pile of them to rake up. We mulch most of ours and some we put out on our garden . I was blessed with many Birthday Wishes and Love from family and friends 10/28, making it a very special day for me, and to you all Thanks very much, for lovely cards and phone calls and emails. Very much appreciated!!!

10/24..36 ladies attended the Red Hat Tea Pot exchange party at Charlemont Restaurant in Morrisville. Our Second Vice-Queen Fredda Ploof met up with the Red Hat Group from Johnson, “The Red Hattitudes” their Queen Judy Beard in September, and invited them to join us for this event. Fredda extended the invitation to our State Queen Vi Hunt, and State Vice-Queen Gail Vansteamberg; to Queen Jeannette Wailand of “Forever Young” from St.Albans; and our group the Green Mountain Ruby Reds. It was a great turn out and everyone had a wonderful time and a delicious lunch.

10/24.. Connie McFarland returned home after going on a Champlain Bus Tour accompanied by her daughters Nancy Benson and her daughter Alyssa; Jane and her husband Joe Sanpetrino. Their five day tour was very nice and they all enjoyed their family time together.

10/25..Maggie Elkins invited five children from the neighborhood , that has become an annual get-together to come and carve out Halloween pumpkins. Connor, Liam, and Ava Walker, Thomas and Alex St.Onge all got to carve out pumpkins and enjoyed refreshments after. As the kids get older they will probably out grow this little fun time at Maggie’s home, as Madison St.Onge was not there this year.

10/27.. Our daughter Veronica DeSaintphalle came over and picked me up to go with her to Newport, we both had business at Vermont Dept. of Motor Vehicles. So once there in Newport we got that taken care of, then we were off for an early birthday lunch at the “East Side Restaurant” she insisted on taking her Mother out for lunch. Veronica had never been there to eat before and just loved the atmosphere and the food which is always delicious. We shopped around at a couple of places before returning back home. When we went over Jay Peak the clouds were covering the top but on our way back the mountain was clear and a snow cover near the top of the mountain. YEP..there was some snow..Veronica took pictures!!! We had a wonderful time and the weather cleared up and had sunshine most the afternoon.

10/27.. Don McGowan sent me an email this week and always enjoys the Montgomery news, way up in Brockville, Ontario. Isn’t it nice that our news is enjoyed so far away? Don and wife Rosemary had property on the Longley Bridge Road for years but decided to sell and retire back in the 1000 Islands. Don made many friends while he was in the area and I used to see him on TV with his “Travel-Travel” shows. It was nice to meet him in person and we became friends also. Thanks Don!!

The Montgomery Historical Society was informed that member Jack Quinn received an Award of Excellence for Life Time Achievement from the League of Local Historical Societies and Museums on October 28th.
