  • ROAD CONDITIONS ALERT!

Road Alert Update: 3/13/24 as of 3:00pm

Montgomery folks! Please be aware that the road crew is still working on clearing the back roads. Maintenance efforts will be ongoing with the trucks hauling large stone and gravel. As we see temperatures rise later this week please be cautious and aware as you navigate the back roads as we expect soft and muddy conditions again. As we encounter muddy conditions throughout the remainder of mud season if you have the ability to stay OFF back road areas or can take alternate routes please do so to the best of your ability and discretion if possible.

If you encounter areas with severe damage please leave a message at the Town Garage 326-4418 with the road name, condition/damage report, & identifying area such as a nearby physical address if possible. They will be checking their voicemail periodically so please do not panic if you do not get a return phone call as they are actively out on the roads. If you need Emergency Assistance please call 911, as we do have the capacity to reach you if medical services are required.

About the Town

Montgomery is known as “Vermont’s covered bridge town.” Its unique geography required many bridges, and as recently as the 1940s there were thirteen covered bridges within the town’s limits. There are six covered bridges within town limits, and one which straddles the town line with Enosburg — the most of any town in the country.

Montgomery’s heritage is firmly rooted in farming and the timber industry. Today it is a diverse community with several farms, many small businesses, artists, craftspeople, and a lively citizenry comprised of a mix of full-time and vacation residents. It is an all-season recreation destination.
